2009 Breeders Cup Classic

Postby Gearbox on Sat Oct 31, 2009 2:26 pm

The 2009 BCC runs off next Saturday (Nov 7th) at Santa Anita, and the Irish bred invader "Rip Van winkle" is early favorite to whoop the contenders...

Here's the entire race card for the BC races on Friday and Saturday...the very last race on Saturday is the $5m Classic.

Apparently Rachel Alexandra is not among the starters, but another unbeaten filly "Zenyatta" is now favored slightly ahead of the Irish colt "Rip Van Winkle". Question on my mind is, can "Mind That Bird" score another big upset like he did in the Kentucky Derby back in May when he shot thru a tiny hole on the rail?

Well well well...Frankie Dettori has shown again why he is the best rider in the world as he lands Pounced in the first race of the day...the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf. Steve Melnyk had a horse in the race named Bridgetown which ran second...he names all his horses after locations in Barbados. Here's that race...

Well the Classic belongs to the unbeaten mare named Zenyatta...she dismissed a field of well qualified boys including the Irish invader Rip Van Winkle. Excellent ride from Mike Smith. I think this mare deserves to be awarded Horse of the Year, but I understand that Rachel Alexander will most likely win that award for winning more Grade 1 races against the boys. Zenyatta has an unblemished record of 13 career starts with 13 straight wins, but this was the first time she ever ran against the boys. The connections of Rachel Alexander refused to send her in this race because they do not like the synthetic surface at Santa Anita. Here's the race...
