De one or two reports I see so far sound promising. Doan seem like dis gine be nuh Vista style crap.

Dey was a interesting review on de same BBC by a fella dat do 3 upgrades\installs on 3 machines. Seems like it went pretty well aldoah de upgrade from Vista was de most problematic.
Clean Install seem to be de best way to go........hardly surprising I suppose.

Clean installs are always the best way to go unless you have lots of important apps on your PC that will be difficult to get back (no installation CDs available), or too time consuming to reconfigure some apps.

I understand that one of the nice things about installing Win7 is that it has a much wider device driver base included, so you'll hardly need to search for and install drivers after the OS is installed (this of course applies to current hardware...not future).

Here's an interesting little wrinkle.
I was trying the upgrade advisor on an old desktop here (just for kicks - it can't run Win 7 anyway).
Among the apps. that it flagged as problematic was...MS SQL Server 2005 Express Management Studio. :surprised:
Hmmm, typical MS - not even compatible with your own software :naughty: :goofy: :goofy:

And SQL2005 isn't even that old. Since de express edition is free, you'd probably have to download and install the latest version. Funny thing is that Microsoft was boasting that Win7 would be compatible with far more legacy products its predecessors.

But I realize for a while now that one of Microsoft's sales strategies is to force people to purchase additional new products when installing the latest OSs...especially so with server products.
