I glad fa dum but at the same time I aint feel dem had nuh right bidding cause we all know these big sporting events duz juss mek people spend muney dem cant recoup. An fa the longest time I been reading and hearing that Brazil real poor especially the people in dem favellas in Rio etc.
Unless de government cud use this as a means to get some infrastructural work done to help out in the long run then this is the equivalent of eating out all ya money cause i bet ya dem gine gotta beg borrow and tief ta get money to pay fa this event.
Coulda just let the US dat cud more afford to waste money win

And Skule, why do you think that EVERYBODY wants to hosts de Olympic games in their country\city?...because it is a BIG economic boost to the host. It brings in a damn lot of revenue. So once you have the facilities and expertise to manage it, it is the best thing that could happen to your country. Congratulations to Brasil.

Skule is right. It took Canada nearmost 20 years to pay back dem debt from de Montreal Games. Every country dat host does lose money big time. De consolation is, export trade increases after the games, which is good for the overall economy. But de olympics itself ent nuh money maker.

BB, would you say that Montreal is worst off or better off today for hosting the games? Nothing wrong with debt if you're going to come out better in the long run. The fact of the matter is that Brasil's economy is in pretty good shape, and hosting the games is icing on the cake. It would be immensely beneficial to Brasil to prove to the world that they can successfully host the largest sporting event in the world.

"For others it would be just another Olympics, but for Brazil it would be something to raise the self esteem of the people," Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said this week. "No other city needs to host an Olympics. Brazil needs it. ... Do only rich countries have the right to host the Olympics?"

I 'in really know if Montreal betta off. It depends on how much dem exports grew since then. I hope private business prospered, given wuh duh went through in constructing fuh de games. Cause once duh start closing roads temporarily to fuh constuction, small business gine thru de eddoes. I see it happun pon Miami Beach jess trying to improve de city fuh tourism.
I glad to see Brazil get it too, (which is diffrunt from saying dat I glad de US didn't, like anti-Obama $#!tehongs hey sayin). I'm glad to see dat it in de Caribbean region, nuh mattuh which country got it. Besides, nuh country in South Amurka nevva had it befo'.

But because there were still paying for it doesn't necessarily mean dat the city's economy hasn't benefited from hosting the Olympics. If I was to win the lottery right now it doesn't make that I'm going to pay off my mortgage in full...it may make more financial sense for me to invest the winnings otherwise to ensure wealth in de long run.
