"Dating" back then.

I don't know if any of you had the experience.
Dating back in the sixties was so much fun it gives me a pleasure reminiscing of days and nights gone by. It was fun having friends coming from a community as much as what seem like two miles away and sitting on the steps or verandah and telling stories while drinking mauby and eating a cheese cutter or going by the nearby fry-fish seller to get some fray-cakes or two fish cakes and a loaf of bread with a JU-C. Then we would walk with them back home, and they would walk back with us part of the way back to our home and it seem like we didn't want to say goodnight to one another. Truth is that we were not wealthy but we sure had fun. more to come in the book :bigok:

Well Cappy, you call it dating but I remember it as "bottling dew". :goofy: My dew bottling started in de late 70s, and I remember spending many nights sitting down put de people steps while de girl in she house sitting down at she winduh and we just talking and mekkin sport. In those days you had to do alot of that before the girl would accept an offer to go to a fair, or de cinema, or to the beach with you. But it is true dat some fellows use to walk or ride a bicycle fuh miles to be in the presence of a young lady and bottle dew.

Did we ever have to have patience before getting to "first base", and don't talk about hitting "a home run" it seem like forever. In any case I think we respected the girls more than some of the guys these days, as a matter of fact the longer it took the more we were inclined to stick with the girl, but times have changed.
I remember when you had to talk to the girl's mother before taking her out because she wanted to know who her daughter was going out with, and don't brig her back too late either or your goose is cooked. :bye:

Yeah, times have changed drastically. Back in those days you use to make sure you get you bath in the evening, put on some nice clean clothes, make sure sneakers clean and spotless, and slash on some Brut cologne. Also you made sure that your hair comb and pat down nice and neat, and yuh teeth brush till they sparkling. When yuh mekkin yuh final approach tuh de girl's house, yuh put on yuh coolest walking style cause yuh know she gine be at de winduh looking out.

I remember courting a girl who use to live in Country Road when I was 15 years old, and I use tuh carry a hamburger or hot dog for her almost every evening from de snackette that use to be in White Park Road (White's snackette\Burger Bee). I use to work with my grandfather on weekends, and that how I use to get money. Dah girl use to look forward to seeing me every evening...and boy was I in love. I even use to pick de people's hibiscus flowers and carry fuh she. When I left Barbados both me and she did broken hearted...we kept in touch with love letters for about a year then that stopped. I went to visited her when I returned home for a visit after 3 years, but I was told by the person living there that she and her parents had move to some part of Christ Church but couldn't give me an address. I saw her many times since I returned permanantly, but she was already in a relationship with kids and all...but the love was still in her eyes.
