I think so too...Barbados is very sloppy when it comes to enforcing certain laws and regulations.

Maybe duh need a new way to deal with waste management that would discourage people from dumping. Actually, not maybe. Definitely.

Fuh instance. Everybody needs a standardized garbage bin. Someting big enuff to hole 3 days o' garbage and de truck kin come round twice a week to collek it.


A separate bin of similar size wuh fuh recycling. YUh kin pick dah up every other Friday.
Fuh large volume waste, (fridges, TVs, etc) two pickups a year, but yuh gotta call and get a truck-sized bin.

Man bajans gine still dump. You know wuh de funny ting is? There are fellas who own trucks and do side jobs dumping old large appliances (fridge, washing machines, stoves, etc..) for people...and they charge a fee to take the items to de official dump site. The problem is dat some of those same fellas are the ones who dump off de items at de nearest gully so they can save time and diesel. But I understand duh got a few companies now dat into recycling metal and they does collect such tings fuh free once yuh call dum.

Duh gine still dump if it easier to dump. But dis would mek it too easy not to use de system.

Man i got three bins one is picked up weekly and de udder two on alternate weeks, den ya got tuh put yard waste(tree trimmings, leaves but not grass) in ah large paper bag grass shud be cut an lef wey ya cut it............we are also allow tuh put out large items sofa, mattresses and appliances....in sum areas duh dus luk in de bins and if ya got de wrong garbage bags or garbage duh dont pick it up......

Once in a blue moon duh does do $#!te, but fuh de most part, de system does wuk great. Man um does even look uniform when yuh pass thru neighborhoods and all yuh kin see fuh hundreds o' yards ahead is blue or green bins longside de road all in a row.
Wuh uh saying is, de B'dos guvmunt gine gotta get a wukkable system. Dis lotta plastic bags and buckets pon de sidewalk 'kin gine cut it.

Well wuh I saying is dat even if de B'dos gov't implement such a system, the problem will still be to get many bajans tuh comply wid it. They got some real indiscipline people bout hay yuh know...and many of them are adults too. De gov't wud have to enforce stiff penalties on those do not comply in order to get things working de way it is suppose tuh.

Even if duh real indiscipline, it would tek mo' outta dum to dump illegally, than to dump wid de system. Uh mean, I would really gotta go outta my way and bypass my two big bins outside de house to dump illegally. If I got big tings dat don' fit to get rid of, including a tree if I cut down one, I jess gotta go online to a website and schedule a pickup. Leff dum right outside my house on de grass and duh gine get pick up.

Well BB...as I seh, de tings dat people have been dumping are the large and heavy items. If a man buy a new fridge because he old one brek down, he aint gine keep it round de house waitin fuh de next pickup which could be months away. Hopefully dat kind of dumping will be reduced now since de metal recyclers are willing to pick them up for free...and dat depends on how quickly they respond too.

Exactly. But it's very difficult tuh ketch de ones who dumpin in gullies cause they do it in the night time. De only way tuh possibly trace who de dumped products belonged to would be to get de serial # and and see if de department stores could trace dem back to de original purchaser. But once people find out dat is being done, they gine mek sure and remove any serial numbers before dumpin.

Or de police gine gotta stake out de gullies at nite.

Well muh brudda, I doan know if de gov't cud pay me enuff money tuh hide out in a gully at night waiting tuh arrest illegal dumpers. But if de money is right, and they give me a partner, and arm us both wid glocks...den I wud take it into consideration.

aint no of de fire bugs of de 80s, but bac in de 60s muh fadder used tuh have tuh do plain clothe patrols in canefield areas fuh fire bugs..........
