PiedPiper wrote:Most of the problems in terms of poor treatment have been with the farm workers and nanny programs. I don't recall Canada ever before placing a job call for the hospitality sector. I hope it opens up a lot of opportunities for Bajans. My mother is in the hospital again and once again, I am struck by the large number of Bajan nurses and porters we have in our hospitals.

Quite true. I think a lotta times we dat cum from a developing country does tend to tink de bess place fuh a parent, grandparent even husband or wife is home wid fambly, but dah 'in necessarily so. And of course finances got a lot to do wid it too. Of course if yuh independently wealthy, and yuh kin stan home and have all de necessary people come in to provide care, yuh all set.

That's right. I know dat many bajan ol' people prefer to die at home. I remember my grandmother discharged herself from de QEH and went back home to die. She was still very sick when she discharged herself but she was adamant dat she wasn't dying nowhere else but home...and a few weeks later she closed here eyes for good. While she was home my mother paid a lady to look after her (cook, feed, and keep her clean). Sometimes yuh does gotta give in tuh their wishes otherwise they might die sooner of heartbreak...but if yuh could get dum to accept de idea dat a good nursing home would provide better care and they would have other old people around to chat with, then it works out better for everybody. Unless, as you said BB, yuh rich enuff tuh pay fuh all de necessary people (doctor, nurse, maid) to come into de home.
