Plenty doggies does be pun de catwalk too :surprised: . But if de name is suppose tuh imply de material dat it is made of, den a catwalk shud be made of cats if a boardwalk shud be made of board.

Dah's my point - dat de name is tuh describe it in sum form or fashion.
Now a catwalk duz got cats crossing it (& of course de doggies gine be chasing dum - dah's just de way it is  ), while a boardwalk duz be mek outta board.
See de point? De name describe it in sum way. So how a boardwalk cud describe a concrete structure?
It ent mek outta board, yuh doan see board passing up & down dey.
True dat sum nites yuh mite encounter a few lil bits of wood :sex: dey but not enuff tuh mek it a characteristic of de walkway.

Well for many people including myself, de word "boardwalk" does not immediately bring to mind the material dat it is made of, but rather a walkway by the seashore dat runs parallel to the coastline. Do you think we should just call it a "sea wall" as they do in Guyana? :puzzled:

Think of it dis way Jock...de same way dat de "surfboard" has transitioned from being made of wood in de old days to being made of foam, fiberglass, and resin today...is de way dat de "boardwalk" has transitioned from board to concrete as well. De name ain gotta change because de material change.

As far as the debate of whether concrete can be referred to as a boardwalk, it's debatable...

On one hand, de definition say a boardwalk is made of wooden planks
http://www.answers.com/topic/boardwalk

On de odduh hand, Coney Island NY is switching from a wooden boardwalk to concrete, and duh refer tuh it as a Concrete Boardwalk.

After a while de material something is made of becomes irrelavant to the name of the thing...what it is used for becomes far more relevant...just like de "surfboard".

Lover's Lane use to be Trevor's Way cross there by my workplace...but since a man get kill out there one night years ago nuhbody doan guh :banging: out there anymore. Things get too dangerous tuh risk dah kindah ting in public places at night...but of course yuh gine still find one or two daredevils risking it.

I remember going down by de Hotpot (Brighton) early one morning around Crop Over time years ago and saw a fella and a girl in de back seat of a car foopin. I mean de man had de back door open so he foot could extend outside, and even though I pulled up next tuh de car so I cud see right thru de door, de two uh dem din pay me nuh mind. She had one leg ovah de back seat and de other ovah a front seat...and my boy was on top peltin wood. When duh finish, they sat down in de back seat and then he pulled in de door...they put on their swimwear, got out of the car, and walked into de hot pot.
