Thought for the day 9/14/08

Postby PumpkinFritters on Sun Sep 14, 2008 7:30 am

Sunday, September 14

There is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving.—Acts 20:35.

For some 15 years, Timothy stuck with Paul. Timothy witnessed firsthand the formation of new congregations as the good news spread to almost all of the northern Mediterranean area. His life was more thrilling and satisfying than it would have been had he chosen to live a “normal” life. By pursuing spiritual goals, you too will reap priceless spiritual blessings. You will draw close to Jehovah and earn the love and respect of fellow Christians. You will enjoy the genuine happiness that comes from unselfish giving. Most precious of all, you will “get a firm hold on the real life”—eternal life on a paradise earth. (1 Tim. 6:9, 10, 17-19) So begin immediately to train yourself with godly devotion as your aim. Make regular personal study of God’s Word a priority. Be determined to resist the materialistic spirit of this world. w07 5/1 3:20, 21

Yuh know wuh I does really enjoy?...when me and fellas at Ms Carol rumshop get into a discussion about religion or spirituality. The last one we had was about Israel today being the holy land...and one fella is of the opinion that the Jews are the chosen people of God and that Israel is the holy land under God's protection. So when I hear he seh so I had tuh jump in he skin and tell that if that happens to true then God would be a very bias God. I asked him to explain the logic in that to me...why would only one group of people or one piece of land be favoured by God in a way that makes all other people and places second class by default? He seh because everyting in de bible is centered on that region of the world. So I tell he, since that is case, maybe the preachings and teachings and commandments of the bible should only apply to the people of that region. As most religious debates go, ours ended in stalemate without surrender...but it was fun expressing our different views over a friendly drink.

So what does dat mek you...His unchosen?? :laugh2: I thought the chosen people were those who believe in God the Creator, but if I'm to understand that it is only the Jews then I'm crushed to think that I never stood a chance from birth. :surprised:

This is why I doan hurt my head over religion too much...I prefer to look at life as it is and figure out for myself what makes sense from what doesn't given all the circumstances therein.
