BERLIN (Reuters) -- World record holder and Olympic champion Dayron Robles of Cuba made an early exit from the world athletics championships when he failed to finish his 110 meters hurdles semi-final on Thursday.

Robles, hampered by a hamstring injury, hit the first three hurdles before pulling up.

The 23-year-old lay on the track for several minutes before being carried away for medical attention.

Robles injured his left hamstring during the winter and suffered a recurrence recently. He said on Wednesday that he experienced pain when he tried to hurdle.

Ryan Brathwaite of Barbados and American duo Terrence Trammell and David Payne were the fastest qualifiers for the final, later on Thursday

BERLIN- Barbadian Ryan Brathwaite has won the first ever gold medal for the island at the World Championships in Berlin. Competing in the men's 110 m hurdles a short while ago, Brathwaite clocked 13.14 seconds, a new national record to take the gold medal in a closely-contested race.
